The UN recruits different staff categories:

International recruitment

  • Professional and higher categories: Internationally recruited staff performing analytical and conceptual work, normally outside of the country of origin and with the expectation to move geographically throughout their career
  • Field Service category: Internationally recruited staff in field operations whose functions range from procedural, operational and technical to analytical and conceptual 

Local recruitment

  • National Professional Officers category: Nationals and permanent residents of the country of service performing analytical and conceptual work within a national context

Other categories also exist: General Service, Public Information Assistants, Language Teachers...
